Question
Hi again,

In Illustrator CS2 (I'm using a mac OSX 10.4.11), this time I'm trying to preserve the stroke weight (in this case: 3pt, miter 5, inside) on a shape without it changing the setting on me after I outline stroke...

Thanks.

Answer
Hi there,

Well, the stroke weight and mitre will be eliminated when you outline the stroke, right? Because that's what outline stroke does, it gets rid of any stroke settings and turns it into a filled object.

And you already know how to offset the path. This time you would:
- select path
- offset path by negative 1.5pt
- delete original path
- outline stroke on new path

Is that not working for you this time or am I missing something?

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.
