Adobe Illustrator/problem opening AI file

Question
Hi!
When trying to open my file, I get an error message that says:
<<<<<<<<<
Offending operator: "0.24705543.'_1.7202"
Contect:
f
%/ArtDictionary:
%(-0.000000)/String(BBAccumrotation)
%;
%
0.24705543.'_1.7202
>>>>>>>>

It eventually open but only a few items are there.
How do I retrieve my work?
Can you help?
Thanks!

Answer
Hi Claudine,

To me it looks like the file is corrupt, unfortunately.

You can try PLACING the damaged file (do not choose Linked when placing) and there's a chance that a bit more of the artwork will appear.

Also, if there are linked image files in your AI file, you can try opening each one and re-saving (with same name, in same location) because there's a chance that AI is having trouble reading the linked file.

Sometimes you can try opening the file on another machine, if that's an option for you. I don't think that will help you in this case.

If you'd like, you can send it to me and I will try to open it in CS3???? Send to AmyLynPace@yahoo.com

Other than that, this file may have to be re-created. I am sorry, it has happened to me, too.

GOod luck!
Amy

Expertise

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.

Experience

I've been a graphic artist for over 20 years. Oh my God, 20 years.
