Question
QUESTION: I started with a  73 page graphic manual from a pdf file. I saved as a ai file, so i could edit the pages. when i  go to save the file and I and up losing all my changes. A message pop's up saying unmanaged files and closes out of it. Is it acrobat or to large of a file or what? I can't even save it as a pdf file. It's to large. Need HELP bad. Bonnie

ANSWER: Hi Bonnie,

You can only open one page at a time using Illustrator and if the file is write-protected (locked by the creator) it will not let you edit the file at all. That is normally what causes that type of message.

Thanks

Kevin

QUESTION: I opened up one page at a time, and saved it as one large file as a ai file. Is the pdf original file info and ai info not working together? Or do i need to save this manaul in smaller sections? Let me know. asap
Thanks for all your help. Bonnie

Answer
Hi Bonnie,

You cannot edit pdfs in that manner.

You will have to open each page in AI, edit then save as separate document ie. "doc-1pg1.pdf", "doc-1pg2.pdf", etc.

You should be saving back to a pdf format, not ai. You can then piece this back together in Acrobat into one book.

Thanks

Kevin
