Adobe Illustrator/clipping mask problems

Question
I am using illustrator and  looking to make a clipping mask for a logo i'm working on. This is a new version, cs3, that i haven't used too much for illustrator. But what is happening is that i have my main logo outline and trying to mask a design from underneath like you are supposed to. What happens when i click make clipping mask is that everything becomes white. The paths can still be seen as outlines but obviously no clipping. Can you help me out and tell me what could be going on or I'm doing wrong?

Answer
Hi Kyle,
I apologize for the delayed response things got a little busy. As for your question, I'm not 100% clear what you're trying to do. Are you trying to knock out the logo to show what's underneath? Is the design underneath a placed image?

Thank you,

Tom
