Adobe Illustrator/Marquee tool
Expert: Kevin Stohlmeyer - 4/1/2009
QuestionHi I'm relatively new to Illustrator and I have been trying to select part of a line and have the line loop through the primary image. see this link:
http://psd.tutsplus.com/tutorials/tutorials-effects/create-a-high-flying-snowboa... (step 13). I'm not trying to duplicate the entire image created there, but I primarily looking to learn how to interwine the line around an object. I'm using CS2 and there isn't actually a marquee tool on the side; however, I have read on that people are using the lasso tool. Any advice? I've been trying for a while. There's also the layer mask function.
Much appreciated.

AnswerHi Jeff,
First, there is a marquee tool in your CS2. Type "M" on your keyboard and it will jump to it. There are several tools housed under that button so it could be the circular marquee tool or another tool instead of the familiar square.
Next, you need to create a layer mask on the layer you want to hide (your line). Select the layer with your line, then click the layer mask button at the bottom of the layers palette (it looks like a circle in a box). This will add a layer mask to your line layer.
Then, using your brush tool, hit D for default colors (white/black) and paint black on the layer to hide your image parts. Use the eraser to bring them back.
This is much easier than the tutorial from the site.
Thanks
