Adobe Illustrator/Indesign CS3 files to Illustrator CS3

Question
I am working with this ad agency and they need me to take all their Indesign CS3 artwork and bring it into Illustrator CS3, so clients that only have Illustrator can drop in there logo and revise some text within the artwork. The Indesign artwork has about 5 layers. I know I can save the Indesign as PDF or EPS and open it in Illustrator but it makes the file one grouped layered. So is there any why to keep the layers when transferring? Or am I stuck with coping and pasting each layer? I am so stumped. I hope you can help me. If this is confusing let me know and I can go into more detail of why the client needs me to convert these files.
Thank you for your help,
Candace :)

Answer
Hi Candace,

If you save out as a PDF as PDF X1-a, and compatibility is set to Acrobat 6. This can remember layers. Im not sure how that will translate into Illustrator, but its a start. If it does not come in with layers, then you may be stuck copying and pasting layers into Illustrator.

Thanks

Kevin
