Question
Amy,

I've been working in Illustrator for while but I don't understand why I can't see my cursor (blinking) when I type in Illustrator CS3.  I know it's a command but I don't know what the command is please help.

Answer
Hi Troy.

Hmmm. It isn't a command, actually. Even if you hide edges, you are supposed to be able to see the flashing cursor.

Try this, to help me figure out if the cursor is missing or if it is white. Make a text box on a black background and type. Is the cursor there now? If it is, it means something is making your cursors lighter than normal.

Are you on a Mac? The "Shades" screen brightness software conflicts with Illustrator cursors - I found that info on the forums.

Do you ever see the text flashing cursor? If you see it sometimes but not other times, you are not alone. CS3 just does this sometimes.

The other thing you could do right away is delete your preferences. This might correct it. Do you know how to delete prefs?

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.

I've been a graphic artist for over 20 years. Oh my God, 20 years.
