Adobe Illustrator/Illustrator RAM

Question
Hi Kevin,

I'm having a consistent problem with Illustrator CS3. While
working with illustrator, saving files or exporting, an
error message pops up saying "this operation can not
complete because there isn't enough memory (RAM) available"
or i get this message "can't finish previewing. There isn't
enough memory. ID=-108".

The settings for my computer are:
Microsoft Windows XP
Intel (R) Core (TM)2 Duo CPU
E6550 @ 2.33GHz
2.33 GHz, 1.97GB of RAM

Can you please help me with this recurring problem?

Thanks,

Answer
Hi Norma,

The answer is simple- you really do not have enough RAM for your Illustration. What I normally find is people have a lot of fonts installed or extra apps running in the background that take away from your AVAILABLE RAM. Total RAM does not matter, you could have 1.97 gigs or RAM, but only 100 MB available if you have enough things hogging it up.

Check your memory control panel to see exactly how much you really have.

Your options are to remove fonts or preferrably buy a font manager, shut down all other apps, or if the case is that your file is HUGE, then you may have to work outside of preview mode.

Thanks

Kevin
