Adobe Illustrator/Edit scanned files (tif)

Question
Ok, here goes. I work for a small printing company, so the way I handle files is a little different from what some people do. (you probably already know that). Anyway, I am often given hard copy artwork for printing jobs. I have to scan them in and edit them as necessary. I have trouble editing TIF files that have been scanned. I try to make paths out of the images, but I have to use live trace and that distorts the image. Is there anyway I can scan in hard copy images an edit them they way I need to (ie, change color, color separate, edit text, etc.)
Sorry if I am confusing.
Thanks, Ann

Answer
HI Ann,

Unfortunately, the best way to separate these items out is to do so by hand, not via Live Trace. It is a little more time consuming but the results are much better. Im really surprised that you are asked to do things like this instead of only accepting digital files. This may take a while to input for edits.

Sorry
