Question
Kevin,

http://en.allexperts.com/q/Adobe-Illustrator-1027/2008/9/Creating-Circle-Cut.htm

In the link above you explain how to cut out a photo into a circle.
I would like to instead do the inverse of this, and cut the interior of the circle out of the photo, leaving a photograph with a hole in the middle.

Can you help me?

Answer
Hi Violet,

You first need to create a Compound Path -

Create your shape (the size of your photo) and then create your circle shape on top of this. Then select both shapes and go to Object>Compound Path>Make. It should punch a hole in the center of the larger shape.

Then place this over top of your photo and select both shapes. Finally, go to Object>Clipping Mask>Make and viola! You have a hole punched in your photo.

Thanks

Kevin
