Adobe Illustrator/Problems Opening Illustrator CS4

Question
Hello,
I am having problems opening Illustrator CS4, version 367. I get this response,
"Unable to set maximum number of files to open"
I am using MacBook Pro, Mac OS X 10.6.2, Memory: 4GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Never had a problem.
Have not done anything to try and rectify the problem until I get help. You are my
first contact.

Hi Steve,
Try resetting your AI Prefs - hold down shift+option+cmd/apple when you start up. See if that fixes it.
The only other resource I can locate states that you may have a bad install and will need to clean uninstall/reinstall but I always try a reset first.
