Adobe Illustrator/how to join and outline multiple objects in ilustrator?

Question
Hi,

I would like to ask this:  I have several objects created in illustrator. For example created 3 ellipses, filled with color. Now, I move them so they are overlapping - to create different, not elliptical shape.

What I need - how to merge those 3 ellipses and create one object with SINGLE outline? I tried to use different illustrator tools and effects like pathfinder, but no luck. I am complete beginner...

thanks for your help!

Answer
Hi Pavol,

First select your objects and open the pathfinder panel (not the Effect menu item - window>pathfinder). Choose the first button (Unite) and if you are using CS3 or earlier, click the "Expand" button. This will combine all your objects into one continuous path.

Thanks

Kevin
