Question
QUESTION: I have several users that recently upgraded from CS2 to CS4 and they are having issues with trying to get there Illustrator CS2 files to convert over to Illustrator CS4 files. They are using the "save as" to convert the files over but get the message that I have uploaded with this question.
ANSWER: Hi Adam,
This error message happens when you save from CS4 back to CS2 using the "Save" command. It is a normal disclaimer. Opening in CS4 does not automatically convert them to CS4.
In order to fully convert these files to CS4, your students should be going to Save As, then choosing Illustrator or EPS as the format and CS4 as the version. Backsaving will always give you this error message.
Thanks

QUESTION: Hi Kevin,
i have one more question that my user just asked me after i gave them your response. The question they gave me was.
Is there a way to know whether a document is definitely CS2 or 4? To be aware of it as we work on it? And, what do we do about the fonts that rearrange themselves without rhyme or reason? I don't think they automatically fix themselves once saved in CS4.
AnswerIn your Illustrator preferences, you can turn on an option to append [Converted] at the end of anything legacy (older than CS4). Anything that opens with the converted appendage is an older version.
Your fonts should not rearrange themselves when opening in a newer version, unless the font is not available and in those cases it would default your fonts. Fonts are not embedded in the documents.
Thanks
