Adobe Illustrator/Adobe 10- filling open shapes

Question
Hi Tom,
I am using AI 10 and having problems with the fill option. I have my drawings scanned first, imported, and then I used the pen option to draw over them. So I have these shapes with open ends
( example: a dog). Now when I try to fill the shape, it only paints in segments ,meaning picks first and last points of each segments and only fills that part so I end up with unfilled sections within the drawing. I have trying grouping, merging, adding the segments but its not working. Please help!

Answer
Hi Gilda,

It sounds like you have open paths. Meaning that your shapes are not complete. Try clicking on the end of one then selecting another end. This will join the path (line) into a complete shape. Then you should be able to fill with color and it will retain the shape you drew.
I hope this helped. I'll be happy to help you more if you're still stuck.

Thank you,

Tom
