Adobe Illustrator/Illustrator Initializing Problem
Expert: Kevin Stohlmeyer - 4/2/2010
QuestionQUESTION: I'm having a problem identical to one posted to you recently. I had installed a system security update, then right after that, my Illustrator CS2 and InDesign CS2 stopped working. Now when I try to open these programs, they start to initialize, then stop responding.
I tried your suggestion of turning fonts off and on, but that didn't seem to help
I'm running OS 10.5.8.
Thanks!
ANSWER: Hi Emily,
CS2 may not be compatible with Leopard 10.5.8. Adobe and Apple stopped supporting (caring) about backwards compatibility and have no known solutions for issues with CS2 and Leopard updates once CS3 came along.
What will help is if you can tell me what the status is when they stall out. If it is with the initializing fonts or something of the like, then yes, turning off fonts (and not back on) and trying to startup may help.
If it is something else, let me know and I will see what I can dig up.
Thanks
Kevin

QUESTION: The status is different every time. Sometimes it freezes on a specific font, and sometimes it just says "Initializing..." I've tried checking my fonts for problems, turning different ones off and on, and turning them all off and on.
I was aware of the CS2/Leopard conflict early on, but the only problem I had with it (until now) was that I could not run 2 design programs simultaneously. Ever since I installed the Security Update 2010-002 on Monday, things haven't been working right. Photoshop works, though.
Let me know if you can think of anything else. If you tell me where to look specifically on the error log I could send you that information.
Otherwise I might have to upgrade my CS...
Thanks,
Emily
AnswerHi Emily,
Security Update may have done something to your install of Illustrator. Try reinstalling first before you buy a new update. I will keep checking for any other issues, but it could be that you updated beyond compatibility of CS2. The fact that the status is different every time doesnt help pin it down to one issue, so reinstalling may help- but its a long shot.
