Adobe Illustrator/"Rendering Artwork" stalls

Question
Hi Kevin,

I'm running an iMac 2GB ram, 2.8GHz, 366/465 gb hd space free, OS 10.5.8, Illustrator CS3 v13.0.2.

I'm creating pie charts and then applying the Bevel and Emboss filter. I've tried it both keeping the chart intact with data, and ungrouping (losing the data). It had worked in the past (a year or two ago). Now after entering the specs for the B+E, the Rendering Artwork notification appears and it hangs. Have left it for 2 hours and it hasn't moved.

Any solutions would be helpful, also knowing that Illustrator just can't do that would be helpful too.

Thanks,
Alan

Answer
Hi Alan,

Can you explain how you are creating a bevel and emboss? There is no bevel and emboss filter natively in CS3 so I really can't help you with that aspect. Are you using the 3D Extrude and Bevel?

In the end, if it has hung up on the rendering, you are probably rendering something too complex for Illustrator to complete. I would try your method on something other than a chart first to see if it works. If it does, then try expanding the chart out to just shapes instead of a live chart.

Thanks

Kevin
