Adobe Illustrator/Spell Check

I am trying to spell check an AI document.  When I launch the spell check function - the spell check window says "Word Not Found: "preferred" (Spanish) and the suggestions are all Spanish suggestions.  My document is in English and my default language in preferences is English. It seems as if Illustrator is trying to check it for Spanish misspellings. I have used spell check before with great results. See attach.  CS4 - 8 GB RAM - HD 500GB - 101 GB available - OS 10.6.3 2x 2.66 GhZ- Mac Pro - Thanks jeff

Hi Jeff,

First, do not have a document open. Then go to Preferences>Hyphenation and change the default language to English (USA) or (UK). Then quit Illustrator and restart. Then open your document and try spell check again. Illustrator needs to restart to accept the changes.

If your document still tries to check in Spanish, check the Hyphenation preferences again, fix if needed, save your doc. Restart IL and try again.

Hyphenation is the only place to change the language. If this doesn't work, it may be that you are missing your dictionary resource files except for Spanish.

    CommentThat did the trick. I changed the preferences to UK English - without my doc open, restarted Illustrator and when I opened my AI doc it started checking in English correctly. That was really stumping me - THANKS!
