Adobe Illustrator/Converting RGB to CMYK

Question
Dear Kevin Stohlmeyer!

I am using AI CS3 with Windows HP. I want to print the CMYK Offset Printing. I have objects that were done in RGB Color. Then I copy all the objects to my CMYK document. Let me know whether it's still the RGB Color or turn to be CMYK instead.

In addition, I have an image which is also the RGB color mode. I start placing this image to my CMYK document and noted that it is still the RGB Color. Will it be the trouble if I print it the offset printing or must I change the RGB Color to CMYK Color in photoshop first?

Please help to explain in details.

Thank you very very much and best wishes to all of you!

The brief and complete answer will be appropriated!

Yours sincerely,

Answer
Hi Touch,

Yes RGB will cause you issues if you are printing offset. You will need to convert everything to CMYK.

Here are the steps:

Go to File>Document Color Mode and change the document to CMYK (no need to copy to a new doc).

Then go to Select>Select All and going to Edit>Edit Colors>Convert to CMYK. This will convert all the Vector (Illustrator) images to CMYK.

If you have any placed images from an outside source, such as Photoshop, you will need to convert those colors in their original applications and replace the image in Illustrator.

Thanks

Kevin
