QUESTION: When I pull down my font list in Illustrator 9, each font name is displayed in the same type style, and I'm wondering what I can do to get each font name in the list to display in it's own font.

ANSWER: Hi Janet,

Go to preferences>type and check "preview fonts". Then go to the character palette and click the font to see the preview list.

QUESTION: My edit>preferences only has "type and auto tracing", with no option for "preview fonts".  HELP! :)

ANSWER: Hi Janet,

The preview fonts option is under the "type" preference. Be sure to go to the preferences with no document open.

Hi Janet,

Thank you for sending a screen shot this explains a lot...

There was a plug in available from Adobe that allowed you to preview your fonts in Illustrator 9 via the type (and auto tracing) preference panel. It looks like your version does not have that plug-in. Unfortunately your software is over 14 years old and no longer supported by Adobe. I could not find a download for you to use either, but you can search for it if you want.

I wish I could be of more help but your software almost predates the internet so there is little archived to search besides articles.
