Adobe Illustrator/Cut image from image

Question
QUESTION: I have a document that I would like to cut parts off original document and put them on same document, ie. A full body costume, and want to cut an addition mask, and gloves. I tried using clipping masks but the document gets just to big, hiding all the unwanted parts.  How do I do a simple cut and paste?

ANSWER: Hi Josh,

There is no simple cut and paste in Illustrator from another document format. If the document was created in Illustrator, you could just select the image parts, cut and paste. However, since this was created in something else, Photoshop is your best bet otherwise clipping masks are the only way in Illustrator.

Thanks

Kevin

QUESTION: Taking Illustrator document to Photoshop document without changing any scaling, is that possible? I need the images to match.

Answer
Hi Josh,

If this is an Illustrator-created file, then use Illustrator to cut it apart. If it came from somewhere else, open the original file in Photoshop, not the converted Illustrator file.

Just go to file>open in Photoshop, choose your file. It will give you choices in a PDF import dialog box, choose 300 dpi for the resolution and the rest should match.

Thanks
