Adobe Illustrator/color separation

Question
hi,Kevin:
I have a questions regarding the printing process/color separation from Illustrator. I often see other designer's work with a box with the some colors showing on the bottom of their work. looks like color separation or something, would you please tell me how to do that and the reason of doing it?

  Thank you

 Philip

Answer
Hi Phillip,

The color bars you see are called calibration bars. They are automatically created when printed or saved as a PDF with the Calibration bars option turned on in the marks and bleeds section of either the print window or PDF dialog box. It is used by printers for calibration. It doesn't mean much for users.

Thanks

Kevin
