QUESTION: Hi,

I am new to Adobe Illustrator CS4. While trying out this new software and reading up some online tutorials. Understand that to enter text, I need to click and drag a new text box with the text tool. However I am only able to see the text box when I am holding on the click when I released the mouse click, the text box disappear and I can't type my text. Pls help. Thank you.

ANSWER: Hi Elayne,

Go to View>Show Edges. That will solve your problem.

Hi Elayne,

If your menu says "Show Edges" that means that they are hidden. It should be set to "Hide Edges" if it is set correctly. The other issue is if you cannot even type in it after you drag it out could be that you are drawing on a hidden or locked layer. Check your layers panel to make sure you are on an active layer (you can see the eyeball icon and there is no lock icon).
