Adobe Illustrator/created document in Illustrator on Mac, saved as pdf, will not open in Adobe reader

Question
Hi,

I created a document on my mac with Illustrator and saved it as a pdf. The pdf shows up as a blank page when I try to view it in Adobe reader, but when I open it in Mac Preview I can view the pdf. I saved another document the same way (and clipped the artboard the same way) and it opens in reader.

How do I fix my files to be able to open in Adobe Reader?

Thanks,

Cherie

Answer
Hi Cherie,

What versions are we talking about? The only reason a PDF may show up in reader is if you have a layer set as a template layer (non-printing) or if you are saving out with an odd setting in your PDF dialog box. Whenever I have people save as PDFs, I strongly suggest using the presets at the top of the dialog box.

Without knowing more specifics, I would suggest updating your reader and making sure you are saving using a preset, such as Press Quality or Smallest File Size, if you are saving to the web.

Thanks
