Adobe Illustrator/How to keep objects selectable from Illustrator to PDF
Expert: Kevin Stohlmeyer - 2/1/2011
QuestionQUESTION: Hi,
I have Adobe Illustrator CS5 (running Mac OS X 10.6.6) and I'm trying to figure out if there is a way to keep the objects I've drawn in Illustrator (boxes with numbers in them, grouped) in an exported version, maybe a PDF (?), where these boxes and numbers can be selected or highlighted.
A little more explanation: I have a bunch of overlapping numbered boxes drawn on a map, and I'm hoping to export the file to a smaller size and simpler format. I'd like to be able to click on a box and have it and the number be highlighted. I don't have a whole lot of experience with Illustrator, so I don't know if this is possible.
Thanks!
ANSWER: Hi Reagan,
What you are asking to do is not possible via PDF or with Illustrator. This would require either Flash to create an interactive document or InDesign CS5.
Sorry

QUESTION: Kevin,
I do have InDesign CS5. How would I do this through that program?
Thanks so much for your time!

AnswerHi Reagan,
The explanation is way too involved to put in this response, so instead I will send you over to tv.adobe.com to view and read up on the interactive features of InDesign CS5. It will take a bit to learn all of this but in the end it is what you are looking for.
Thanks
Kevin
