Adobe Illustrator/wide screen printing/formatting

Question
Hi,
I am working in illustrator cs3 on a wide screen pc. The page is supposedly formatted as A4, however when I print it distorts the image, I have tried to change the print preferences so that it prints from an 14wide image to an a4 regular page, but this doesn't work. Is there a way I can set my workspace templates so that they are either the correct a4 scale or so that they automatically print a4 without distorting?
many thanks
Ruth

Answer
Hi Ruth,

This sounds more like a display issue rather than an Illustrator issue. I would start by checking the resolution and size you have your monitor set to and see if that helps. You are designing by how things look on screen, but if your screen is stretched to fit the monitor, your image will appear distorted when printed when actually it is distorted on screen.

A great way to check is to create a perfect circle on screen and see if you have an oval when you're done.

Thanks

Kevin
