Adobe Illustrator/Illustrator CS4 masking

Question
Hey Kevin,

I'm wondering if it is at all possible to create a clipping mask with a series of lines? I'm trying to create the effect with the clipping mask that the image has been almost 'scribbled' onto the paper. I've already created a scribble-esque graphic with a sequence of lines, and i've tried to apply it as a clipping mask but to no avail.
Is this possible, and if so, how is it done?

Thanks

Answer
Hi Edward,

A stroked line will not mask. If you select the lines, you can go to Object>Expand and this will convert the lines into shapes. You then can use the Pathfinder panel to Unite (top left button) all the pieces together into one shape that you can then use as a mask.

Thanks!
