Adobe Illustrator/Gradient on AI

Saw an effect like this on a design webpage, with typography appearing like cutout paper with lighting/shadows.

What's the quickest/easiest way to achieve this gradient effect on AI (CS4)?

This gradient was created in Photohsop using the Angle gradient setting. The best way I can suggest to create this in Illustrator is to have two half circles with different gradients on them. The lower left 1/2 circle would be from darkest to mid range, and the top right 1/2 circle would be the midrange to brightest colors.
