Adobe Illustrator/printing

QuestionQUESTION: Kevin I guess I am not sure what your expertise is. You are not able to tell me how to print out a halftone or how to create a halftone. Who would I need to ask for that? Is this not a software issue? Is it a printer issue? As I have said everything worked with Illustrator 7 but now with CS3 it will not. I would assume that CS3 has the same capabilities as 7. Any insight you can give me on where to go to get this solved I would be grateful.
Thanks
Chris
ANSWER: Hi Chris this kind of issue is normally a printer issue, not something that illustrator has issues with. Have you checked in the options for the print dialog box? I can do some research for you if you don't find it there.

QUESTION: Thanks for the info. I have not found anything in the printer options that look like I need. Do you have any idea what would be different from 7 to CS3? That is the only thing that has changed. I am using the same HP5Si printer. If you could do some reasher I would be very gratefull.
Thanks

AnswerHi Chris,
The reason I am kind of off with this is it is normally pretty straight forward to get a dot pattern when printing from Illustrator (or any other Adobe app).
Go to your Print dialog box and select your printer - do not use a generic postscript printer. Then select Output on the left side of the Print dialog box. In that dialog box, you can select a screen frequency (lpi) and printer resolution (dpi) combination.
This creates the dot pattern. It should not print out solid colors unless you are using full 100% spot colors and not tints.
Thanks
Kevin
