Question
QUESTION: Hello Kevin,
I am trying to figure out how to save my image from Illustrator CS4 to a high res jpeg image so I can then in turn upload it to a photo website to have it turned into a large 20x30 print.  After saving it for photo and web device then uploading it to the photo site, the photo site keeps telling me that the image will be blurry this large. Do you know how I can resolve this?
Thank you for your assistance.

ANSWER: Hi Kathryn,

You will have to design your vector image at 20x30 in full size and make sure you are exporting at 300 dpi. Enlarging a placed graphic in Illustrator will not work.  Exporting from Illustrator as a jpeg still makes it a jpeg which is a raster file and is only as good when 100% actual size.

Thanks

Kevin

QUESTION: Can you please tell me how I design at 20x30, i used to just creating in an artboard that is 8.5x11... and then how do I export at 300dpi...I'm not familiar with this and would truly appreciate your help.

Thank you!

Answer
Hi Kathryn,

When you go to create a new document, change the document size to 20" x 30". Don't just hit OK and leave it at 8.5. x 11. When you export, go to the Effects menu>Document Raster Effects Settings and make sure it is set to 300 dpi. Then go to export and when you export your JPG, make sure 300 dpi is chosen.

Thanks

Kevin
