Adobe Illustrator/Fonts in 10 vs. CS

Question
QUESTION: Hello. I'm using a 1950s style TrueType font (called Fontdinerdotcom) in a file in Illustrator 10. But when I import the same .ai file into version CS on another computer (which has the font installed), the font styling is different. Much of the spacing and letter styles are different than in the version 10 file. Do you know why this might be?

ANSWER: Hi Chris,

The type engines changed dramatically between 10 and CS. They have been consistent from CS on.

Thanks!

Kevin

QUESTION: Thanks, Kevin. Interesting; I've never heard of fonts displaying differently in different versions of a graphics application. That doesn't seem very practical, especially for font designers. So how do I get the look I have in version 10; do I have to re-create the file in CS? I much prefer the way (style) the font appears in 10; is there any way at all I can preserve that in CS?

Answer
Hi Chris,

You are dealing with significantly outdated software and the changes were needed at the time due to varying issues (updated OS and font engines, newer types of fonts, open type, etc.). Unfortunately, you will need to recreate or repair it in the newer version. There is no way to preserve it from 10 to CS.

Sorry
