Adobe Illustrator/links missing

Hi Kevin, I have been using illustrator for four years but all of a sudden I have files with all the links missing. I don't think I asked them to be embedded but I do have the new version of IL cS5.1. Is there a shortcut to embedding that I am activating by mistake?

HI Mary,

By "missing links" do you mean that they are embedded and are no longer linked files or do you mean that they are not showing up and are missing from the file? What may be happening is when you place them into Illustrator using File>Place you have "link files" unchecked in the place dialog box.
