Adobe Illustrator/Illustrator CS6 Gradient Mesh

QUESTION: I am teaching this as part of a studio art program. Many students have gradient meshes that can not be selected. They can use the Direct Selection tool to move specific mesh points, but after the point is moves, all other points are no longer visible. Before one could click a mesh point with the Direct Select tool and see all points in that mesh layer. Now the mesh is merely black line with no points, only briefly visible but not activated. Please help me discover how to return the mesh to proper working order.

ANSWER: Hi Matt,

Try having them use the actual mesh tool to edit the meshes. That is the proper way to edit them.

QUESTION: That only adds mesh points and does not allow the Bezier curve between points to be manipulated. Any other suggestions?

ANSWER: Actually Matt,

In CS6 it does both. Once you create a mesh point with curves, you can select the bezier curve handles with the Mesh tool to edit. I just double checked and did it myself to make sure.

QUESTION: Yes it usually does that, but for some reason it won't anymore. Can I send you the file so you can see and play with it yourself?

Hi Matt,

Sending me your file wont matter. This is an app setting, not a document setting.

Try resetting your preferences. Hold shift+Alt+Ctrl (win) or shift+Opt+Cmd (Mac) once you open the app but before the startup screen opens.
