Question
QUESTION: Dear Kevin Stohlmeyer ,

I use MAC PRO with 32GB RAM and 500GB HDD, OS MAC Lion.
When I try to export the artwork from AI CS6 to JPG file format with resolution 150 ppi. I got this error:
"unable to export at this resoultion. Please lower the resolution and try again".

I must export to 150 ppi and cannot reduce lower.

What's wrong?

Answer
Hi Aslan,

First, this is not an error. Your file is physically too big to export out at that resolution for Illustrator. I'm assuming you are printing a banner or large format print. Normally for large format printing, you would design this to scale (25%, 50%) and then export out at a higher resolution. This is a common error if you are not familiar with large format printing and Illustrator.

if your printer cannot take an eps or ai file, you have two options. First you can reduce the artwork and art board down to 50% actual and try an export at 300 ppi, the end result would be the same size jpg file. If that is still too big, reduce to 25% and then export at 600 ppi. Second option - if you have Photoshop, you can try opening the Illustrator file and then saving out as a jpg at the proper resolution.

At the current size and your requested resolution, this will not export as a jpg. It may export out at 72 ppi.

Thanks

Kevin
