Adobe Illustrator/AI File Saving - Vista

Question
QUESTION: Hi Amy

I saw where you had posted a question about saving ai files in Vista - with Vista not allowing you to save docs returning a "file already in use" error.

I'm having the same issue - did you ever find a solution?

ANSWER: Hi David,

As far as I know, there is no answer other than downgrading to  CS3 (not 13.02 upgrade). And that doesn't work all the time, it seems. I guess Adobe doesn't support Vista.

Someone recently posted this work-around on the forums:

You can save files you have previously saved- so what I do is copy an old file and open it up and clear everything out of it. Then I paste my current unsaved art into the old file and press save (not save as). After that, in windows, I re-label the item. So far it seems to work, but I cannot get much functionality beyond that.

Back to my thoughts:
If it were me, I'd look at the Task Manager and quit Acrotray and Acrobat and any other Acro- exe's and try saving. Smells like an Adobe Acrobat error to me.

Sorry I cannot give you better news!

QUESTION: Thanks Amy!  I greatly appreciate your input and advice.

i see where Adobe is now offering a "bargain" help desk session of $39 - have you tried that route?  If so, I'll skip spending the extra cash.

My work around has been to use another computer on the network to access the files - and delete them!

Answer
I would never pay for help =) So nope, I can't tell you. Ten bucks says they would tell you "Sorry, Adobe does not support Vista, that'll be $39."

Post your question on the adobe forums under Illustrator Windows and see if anyone bites. You can beat a dead horse...

Good luck!
Amy

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.

I've been a graphic artist for over 20 years. Oh my God, 20 years.
