Adobe Illustrator/Adobe 9.0 in Win XP

Question
I have a new (never opened) Adobe 9.0 program that I decided to install on my laptop with WinXP.  However, the installation never progresses to the wizard so it doesn't install.  I realized that inside the box is another box which says Designed for Windows NT, Windows98.  Does this mean I can't use it? Can I upgrade?  What are my options?

Answer
Hi Peggy.

I ran 9 in XP (SP2) for a long time.

Is the CD autoplaying? If not, you can browse the CD and start the installer manually. Double click the exe file on the CD.

What can I suggest.... let's see. Turn off your Norton Utilities, Windows Defender, SpyBot, AntiVir, anything like that... disconnect from the internet if it makes you feel safer - that's what I do. Then try the installer again.

That is a page at Adobe that lists their basic installer troubleshooting steps, like installing in VGA mode, manually cleaning up old installations, etc.

That might have some things you can try.

Hope this helps!

Expertise

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.

I've been a graphic artist for over 20 years. Oh my God, 20 years.
