Question
I am trying to convert type to paths, but when I have the type highlighted, The option under type "create outlines" is greyed out? I am certain the font is not the problem because it does the same with arial black. What am I doing wrong?

Answer
Hi Barbara.

To convert type to outlines, select it with the Black Arrow (Select Tool), then choose Type> Create Outlines. Don't Highlight the text with the type tool.

If the type is part of a group or compound path, make sure you ungroup or release path first.

Hope this helps!

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.

I've been a graphic artist for over 20 years. Oh my God, 20 years.
