QuestionI have a .ai file that I cannot open without the following error. Can't open the illustration. Could not complete the requested operation.
I used Adobe Bridge and Placed in Illustrator and I was able to see my images, but not the same...lots of stuff missing. I have all the latest updates...and I can't figure this out. This is very important and took me a long time to create.
AnswerHi Janell,
Unfortunately this usually means the file is corrupt and cannot be opened. Try to get into the practice of saving copies frequently. I know that doesn't help you now.
Sometimes it can also mean that Illustrator is having trouble with one of the linked images, fonts, live paint objects, or other elements within the document.
It's a familiar topic at the Adobe.com support forums, which is a great resource. I am going to suggest that you go there and search the forums for "can't complete requested operation."

There are many suggestions that will include things like:
Try renaming the linked images so Illustrator can't find them (then replace them).
Try placing the corrupt document into a new Illustrator document. (you won't be able to work on it any further).
Try locating all the adodefnt*.lst files on your machine and deleting them. Then restart AI.
Try removing all but the system fonts from your FONTS folder and then restart AI.
I wish you good luck with it.
