Adobe Illustrator/Adobe Illustrator shutting down
Expert: Tom Rouze - 7/19/2005
QuestionPC. Windows XP operating system. It still shuts down if I try to print certain files from the c drive, but prints fine from my USB stick, or if I copy, paste and rename. Maybe the files are corrupt or something. Thanks again, I did get all my files printed.

I sent this info in the response section as well (Thank you!) I did try saving and printing as a pdf but it printed with errors. So then I tried some of your advice from a previous question and converted all the font to outlines and then copy and pasted into a new document. So far that has worked for one of my files, I have 3 other files to print so I will continue to try that! But if you have any ideas on preventing this shut down in the future... please let me know!
Thanks again!

Question -
After opening AI files from my desktop, whenever I send them to a printer, after like 3 seconds, Adobe Illustrator 10 will just shut down on me. Previously, I've found when I open files off of my USB stick, I don't seem to have that problem. Today, I happened to leave my USB stick at home. Please help, I must print out these files today!

Hi Karin,
Let's try to get this thing printed for you first then we can try to solve the quitting part.
If it quits only when you sent it to a printer can you save it in an earlier version like 9? Then open it in 9 and try to print from there. If that doesn't work save it as a PDF and print from Acrobat. Hopefully that will get you through today! Let me know if this worked, if not, then we'll try somethin else.
Thank you,
Tom

Hi Karin,
I hope you were able to get all the files printed. I know that can be frustrating when you have a tight deadline.
I asked some friends of mine about the shutting down issue but haven't heard back. I don't think I asked, Are you Mac or PC?
Thank you,
Tom
AnswerHi Karin,
Yes, it sounds like corrupted files or a conflict of some kind. Especially since you can print if you use your USB sitck (I love those things!). I don't know where to start with troubleshooting a PC for conflicts or currupted files. But at least you found a way around it for now. Maybe if and when you upgrade to CS this problem may go away... hopefully.
Thank you,
Tom
