Hello Amy - Hope you are well?

I have created a duotone bitmap in photoshop and have imported it into Illustrator and used the clipping mask to put in an irregular shape. My problem is I wish to fix it to that shape...maybe by rasterizing it but without creating a white 'square' background..?

Kind regards
Answer -
Hi Lee,

I'm afraid I don't understand what you mean by "fix it to that shape?"

Do you mean group it to that shape or lock it to that shape?  You've already selected it and the clipping path and chosen Make Mask from the menu, I take it.

Can you explain what you need a little further?
If necessary, send files to AmyLynPace@yahoo.com

Hello Amy - All sorted, thank you.

Thanks for your help, I am very gratefull. Have you ever used any of the TOTAL Training CD's for Illustrator/Photoshop? Very interested but dont fancy paying huge price tag that goes with it.

Regards

Answer
Hi Lee,

No, I don't have the patience for tutorial series like those. Plus, there are sooo many resources available for free. This service, the adobe.com forums, the alt.graphics.illustrator newsgroup and little independent tutorials that you find scattered on the web.

One of the reasons I do this allexperts stuff is that I feel that if you are intelligent and familiar with the tools a program offers, most projects can be accomplished by just sitting down and doing it and asking questions/searching for answers when you need to.

I hang out at alt.graphics.illustrator and I read most of the posts there.  That's how I learn. Someone asks a tough question and four people respond with different ways to approach it. The people that wrote the software respond there, too, so you get everyone on there from technical guys to artsy-fartsy types.

If you want a ready reference, I'll bet that a less expensive book from amazon.com would cover most of what's included in those Total Training guides. The guy (Deke) that does those total training guides has books. People seem to like the Wow series, too.  Go to amazon and read peoples' reviews. If you can find them in book stores, see if you like the writing styles.

Good luck,
Amy

Expertise

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.

Experience

I've been a graphic artist for over 20 years. Oh my God, 20 years.
