Question
Hi Amy, once again the advice you have given me has helped a TON!  Your terrific.

I have another question.  I am trying to make a cup shape were the cup is wider at the top and smaller at the bottom (like a paper drinking cup). I want it to be one color, but to have shading so that it looks 3-D.  I tried everything I can think of but nothings seems to wrk.  There doesn't seem to be a column shading command.   I'm sure there must be a way.

Well, thanks again!

Regards,

Mark A

Answer
Hi Mark,

That's the gradient mesh tool again.

Refer to those demos that I pointed you to forbasic instructions on using that tool.

Create 5 or 6 color swatches in the same color range, from dark (almost black) to light (almost white) and fill your gradient mesh with those.  Use the middle four colors most often and use the lightest and darkest for final highlighting. You have to experiment to see what looks realistic. Like I said before, I'm not great at gradient mesh.

Good luck,
Amy

Expertise

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.

I've been a graphic artist for over 20 years. Oh my God, 20 years.
