Adobe Illustrator/Deleting .ai files in recycle bin

Question
Hi Amy

I need to free up some space on my Windows XP PC and everytime I try to delete .ai files from my Recycle Bin it says they are in use, but they aren't. If you could solve this it would be much appreciated!

Thanks

Ellie

Answer
Hi Ellie,

If you have Acrobat open, close it. Sometimes that's the case.

But I'm going to guess that this is just a problem file.

When this happens to me, I move the file from the recycle bin back to my desktop and use this utility to get rid of them.

It's called move on boot. It's free. You basically mark the offending file for deletion and the next time you reboot, it will be gone. Note: After installing this, you will be able to right click on a file to select it for deletion.

Hope this helps!

Expertise

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.

Experience

I've been a graphic artist for over 20 years. Oh my God, 20 years.
