Question
I have a pdf file that I want to edit. It is made up of images and text. The only page in colour is the cover.
Am I able to open this pdf file with in design so that I can edit the document and replace some text? If not, what would be my best method of editing the pdf file?

Many thanks

Answer
Hi Charles,

I'm not a big InDesign user so I can't tell you for certain that you can't use it, but I'd open it with Illustrator.

You'll have to choose only ONE page to open at a time. Make your changes, then save that page with a new name (as PDF).

Change all the pages you need to change and you'll have a single PDF file for each new page.

Then you'll need to combine the new PDF pages. Do you have Acrobat Professional? That's how I combine PDF documents. It's fairly simple, as there's a Create PDF from multiple files menu command.

If you don't have Acrobat Professional, look on the internet for a free downloadable utility specific to your platform that combines PDF files.

There's a way to combine them using Illustrator but the instructions are a little long-winded, so I won't go into that here.

Let me know what tools you have and if I can help you further,

Expertise

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.

Experience

I've been a graphic artist for over 20 years. Oh my God, 20 years.
