Adobe Illustrator/Not Enough Memory (Illustaror CS2)

Question
I recently updated my Adobe Acrobat on CS2, now I'm running into problems in Adobe Illustrator CS2. I certainly don't get how the two are related.

Any .ai file that I open, it comes up with the error "Note enough memory to open the illustration."

Now, I thought it was just Adobe Photoshop hawging memory, so I closed it. I looked at my task manager to see how much ram I had free, plenty!

Still no luck... So I tried to update Illustrator CS2. With Illustrator closed, the installer is telling me that I have it open, and that it needs to be closed in order to update...

Answer
Hi Eddi.

Acrobat and Illustrator use the same fnt.lst files so this indeed could be the problem. Reinstalling might fix it.  First, I would try deleting all occurences of adobefnt*.lst files and see if that fixes the memory problem.

But if it doesn't, you need to troubleshoot the installer error. A few things...

1- Make sure you are installing the right version. You have not downloaded and installed any updates after the original installation, right?

2 - Make sure you are logged in as admin or have admin privileges.

3 - Turn off Norton or Norton-like things.

4 - Even after rebooting, does this installer see Illustrator as being open? Can you see Illustrator.exe in your task manager, end it and then install?

that's a really good place to learn a few things that are too numerous to mention here.
