Adobe Illustrator/Erasure

Question
Hi Amy, This is a question about photo shop.  I noted that you once talked about it like you were familiar with it, so I thought I would give you a shot.  When I use the erasure tool, normaly it removes everything, but for some reason it is now acting like a paint brush tool (applying the color in the color selection box.  I have tried to fix it back to just erasing, but seem to be doing something wrong.

Do you have any ideas on how to fix this.

Thanks again for your wonderful help in the past,

Mark

Answer
Hi Mark,

I'm guessing here. I have to be quick - my mom's here.

Hold down your mouse on the Eraser tool in the tool palette and make sure you are really using the eraser tool and not the magic eraser or the background eraser.

If that doesn't solve it, it sounds like maybe you are erasing something that's on one layer and revealing something on the layer behind it?  Check your layers window for this. F7.

Otherwise, you've got me stumped.  Throw away your PhotoShop preferences and restart and see if that fixes it???

Get back to me and let me know.

Expertise

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.

Experience

I've been a graphic artist for over 20 years. Oh my God, 20 years.
