Question
Do you know a way to export an illustrator document made on v. 9
to Corel Draw 9 ?
Thanks for your help

Answer
Hi Juan,

You can't Save or Export as Corel format but you can save or export to something that Corel can open. Unfortunately, I don't think that version of Corel can handle any format of Illustrator document that contains transparency (effects like drop shadows, blurs) so this will only work for simple or flattened Illustrator documents.

I believe Corel 9 could open AI's v7 or v8 EPS format. Try doing a Save As... Save as type EPS, then choose version 8 in the resulting dialog box and see if Corel 9 will open that. If not, try version 7 EPS.

Again, saving as EPS will flatten any effects you may have in your document.

I thought Corel also had an AI import filter that accepted Illustrator v7 documents. If your copy of Corel does have this Import filter, Save the AI document as AI v7. After you choose Save As... and pick AI as the type, you get a Native Format options dialog box in which you can choose the version. This will also either discard or flatten the transparency, though.

Hope this helps somewhat!

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.
