I just installed a legit copy of Illustrator CS2 on my laptop (Windows XP Media Center), and noticed that the list of fonts does not show up on the Type Pallate or the Type toolbar. I have about 248 fonts, and I made sure that font previews were turned on in the Preferences.
However, if I go to the "Type" menu and choose "Font", all of my installed fonts show up and I am able to use them if I select one from that list.
However, that is quite tedious.
Here is a link to a few screenshots I took of the problem.

Is there anything I can do to fix this?
I have tried:
-uninstalling and re-installing
-swapping fonts to find any corrupt files
-deleting the Illustrator Settings folder
-installing the 12.0.1 update
However, none of those things have yeilded any results.

Hi Sadie,
I see you've posted on Google Groups, too.
Looks like someone else resolved it by uninstalling and installing. Didn't work for you, though.
How about deleting all instances of adobefnt.lst
Search for adobefnt*.LST files on your PC and delete all of them that you find. Don't worry, they will be re-created.
Then, before you start Illustrator again, move all fonts but your Windows required fonts out of the fonts folder. And, also before you start Illustrator, trash the AIprefs file.
Then start AI and see what happens.
I think you're on the right track but I get the feeling this might be a combination of issues.
I'm going to keep watching the google group, too. Did you also post at Adobe.com? I'll search there, too.

I have good news- the problem is fixed! All I had to do was install Adobe Reader 7, and now my fonts show up in the toolbar and the palette just like they should.
I want to thank you for your quick reply and polite suggestions! Hopefully you can use this information to help others with the same problem.
Thank you,
Sadie
AnswerThanks Sadie.
I bet it was the adobefnt.lst issue or some other common file(s). Installing Reader would install/replace that and probably some other common files.
Thanks for letting me know and I will add it to my mental list of things to tell folks.
You have to wonder why Adobe doesn't note that anywhere on their website?????
