Adobe Illustrator/Fonts in Illustrator from MS Word

Question
Hello Amy,

Nice to meet you ^_^

I'm using Illustrator 10.0 with Window XP in PC.

I want to know, if someone types the contents with Greece, French or German in MS Word, how can I copy the content and paste to Illustrator correctly?

As I simply copied them directly from MS Word and pasted in Illustrator, the words were changed to "symbols".

Please help. Thanks!

Answer
Hi Nikki,

I'd like to take a look at a sample of the Word document you are trying to paste into Illustrator.

Sometimes, documents can contain unicode fonts that Illustrator doesn't support (glyphs, accented characters, etc.). Even though the font displays great in Word, it won't display in Illustrator.

There are sometimes work arounds, depending on the Word document, so I'd like to take a look! In the meantime, try copying the text and pasting it into another application (try PhotoShop) and then copying it from PhotoShop into Illustrator.  What happens?

Can you send a short Word doc to my yahoo address: AmyAtExperts@yahoo.com

Thanks!
Amy Pace

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.

I've been a graphic artist for over 20 years. Oh my God, 20 years.
