Adobe Illustrator/Illustrator 9 extension problem

Question
I have been using a G3 tower with AI 9 for a little while and all of a sudden I couldn't open up the program anymore.  The error reads, "The application could not be opened because">>AGMLib<<" could not start up.  I moved each extension from the AI file in the HD to the Systems folder/Extensions folder on the HD.  I tried to star up AI again, but the same error came up with a different Extension.  so I moved all of them to the extension folder.  They all had strange names.  It was all of the sudden and the only change I made to my set up was adjusting my resolution because it somehow reduced it.  Could you help?

Answer
Hi Carlos.

I'd move everything back to where it was.
Then I'd locate and delete the AIprefs file.
Then I'd make sure that I am opening Illustrator by double clicking on the actual application icon and not an alias.
Then I'd locate and delete all files of the pattern adobefnt*.lst on your machine.

Then I'd check my extensions manager (can't remember what this is called on a Mac) and make sure that required extensions aren't turned off.

Other than that, I will have to look around for more clues.

Please try these things, though.

Expertise

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.

I've been a graphic artist for over 20 years. Oh my God, 20 years.
