Adobe Illustrator/Illustrator CS mask disappears when opened in CS3

Question
Why do the masks that were originally created in my Illustrator CS file disappear when I open the file in CS3? Is there an easier way to get them to just show up vs. having to unmask and re-mask every element?

Answer
Hi Megan!

Sorry for the delay - I was on vacation but forgot to set my allexperts status to vacation.

Anyway, your question. I hate to tell you this but I cannot recreate your problem. I looked through the forums to find anyone else reporting the same problem but couldn't find anything posted. Perhaps you have discovered a bug.

My clipping masks from all versions show up just great in CS3. Does this happen with all your masks or just certain files? Is the mask path on the same layer as the object it is masking?

Try placing the AI file and see if the mask is preserved when you do it that way. Otherwise, you can send me a sample of one that shows up unmasked...  my e-mail address is AmyLynPace@yahoo.com

Again, sorry for the delay! Hope we can figure this out.

Expertise

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.

I've been a graphic artist for over 20 years. Oh my God, 20 years.
