Question
In a single layer file containing a raster image, I create a clipping mask which functions just fine in Illustrator, however the clipping mask is ignored when the file is exported to the JPG format.  Is there any way to preserve the clipping mask when saving to the JPG file type?

Answer
Hi Kurt,

In short, the clipping path should be working just fine when you export, too. So something's funky.

First, try resetting your preferences.
1) Quit AI
2) Locate the Adobe Illustrator Settings folder and move it to the desktop or drag it to the trash.
3) Restart AI. If this fixes the export issue, great! You can delete the copy of the folder that you dragged to the desktop.
4) If the problem still occurs, quit AI again and move that folder back to where it was. Over-write the new folder that has been created.

If that doesn't help, can you send me the AI file in question?

I can help troubleshoot your Illustrator 9 through CS3 (and most CS4) problems and suggest the best way to get the results you need. Although I can help with some installation issues, my forte is prepress and how to use the tools and functions in the application itself.
